What A Tease!

On Tuesday the high was 70 degrees and we met our friends Hannah and Donna at the park for some play time, a bike ride and a picnic. It was so gorgeous and we were outside for almost 3 hours and then came home and went outside again. Wednesday was more of the same and we played outside at Nathan's school before coming home and playing outside again with the neighbors.

We are not seasoned Michiganders, but we knew from looking at the forecast that it was only temporary and not to get too excited. But today when we woke up to several inches of snow and temperatures in the 30's, it felt so much colder so much less exciting than before. The sun came out this morning and almost all of the snow had melted by tonight, but when Daddy said that it is supposed to snow again tonight, Nathan slapped his forehead and said, "What!? I thought we were done with that!"

We didn't get to go outside and play today, but we are hopeful to have a couple of outside days next week. At least the promise of spring came with this little tease . Growing up and living in Texas, I never had much of a chance to miss summer or warm weather. It was always there and I actually would start to dread the 100 degree days starting around May. But now I watch commercials for cruises and think, "Wow, look at that beach and sunshine. That looks so nice!" I am finally understanding why people who were born and raised in the north have such a different opinion of winter and snow. It gets old and no matter how white and pristine it looks after it falls, it is nasty. Our cars are filthy and anything that touches the car is filthy. We can't put anything on the floor of the car or it too will become filthy. Kids always want to step in the snow, no matter what type of shoes they are wearing (at least mine do--Hannah also likes to eat snow, especially snow from her shoes or that has fallen off the car in the garage--ICK!). It is a pain to dress yourself and kids in coats, hats, gloves, etc and then remove all of the above items once you are in a building where the heat is set to at least 78 degrees. It is also a pain to go to the grocery store and put all of the above items into your cart and realize there is no room for what you need to buy. It is also a pain to remove all of the above items and put them away for youself and kids after you return home.

However, it is a nice trade off for a beautiful fall with all of the leaves turning colors and the white Christmases that you aren't guaranteed in Texas. The spring is also beautiful here with all of the green grass and flowers that last all summer long. I do love having four seasons, but I am done with this one...Come on spring!

The pictures are from Tuesday and Hannah was wearing a tank top and no shoes, and was eating...you guessed it...snow. Not many places can you eat snow when it is 70 degrees out.
