We have arrived! Our flight to Amsterdam went very well. The kids slept for about 3 hours of the 8 hours on the plane and were awakened to a very sunny morning about 6 hours too soon. They did very well in the Amsterdam airport eating a "breakfast" of Burger King kids' meals and searching through the toy store. Our 20 minute flight to Brussels was also unevntful and then we picked up our cazillion bags that amazingly fit into our rental car. The kids both fell asleep during the drive from the airport to Waterloo and then to our apartment here in Brussels. We are on the 11th floor in a furnished apartment in the city. The balcony is huge and has an incredible view, but there isn't much of a guard rail so the kids haven't been out there yet. Daddy and Mommy both had brief naps yesterday and we all were asleep by 11:30 PM. Hannah was up several times crying and when I asked what she needed she said, "I don't know". Nathan was only up once and he was very difficult to get up this morning. Hannah has told us several times that she wants to go "home, to my house". She doesn't get that we are home and we don't have a "house" yet, but she is adjusting very well. Nathan has impressed us with his adaptability as well. Daddy carried him upstairs to this apartment while he was sleeping in the car and then he came back down to the car so we could carry the girls up. We walked in and found Nathan's jacket, but no Nathan. He was in the toilet room which he had found on his own (it is not in the bathroom which is directly off of the kids' room) and he was going potty. The only thing he wanted to know was, "I'm not sure how to use the flush, Dad".
We went driving around yesterday evening for a mini driving lesson for Mommy. Driving here will interesting for me to say the least. We found a park and had yummy gelato. The kids played and Nathan found the universal language of gun noises and Spiderman helped him make friends with the children there. We heard French, Spanish and Italian at the park there. We then had a very expensive dinner at a Mexican BBQ Grill. Quite an interesting array of food including tunafish salad in a peach--not bad. There was a pitcher of something like sangria on the table, very yum. We thought there was a restaurant right near the park, but in order for us to have dinner there we would have had to drink our dinner. The tables overlooking the park were near a full service bar and the parents sat there enjoying drinks while the kids played. This behavior would be the source of total judgement in the US. I saw a story on Today about moms having cocktails at playdates and there was a lot of uproar about why that was just wrong. Ladies, you just live in the wrong country.
Today we are playing it safe in the apartment. The kids are watching movies on the computer because they have grown tired of watching Nickelodeon in French. We have seen episodes of Bob l'eponge and Jimmy Neutron. Daddy brought us Chinese food for lunch and he'll be back in a few hours to pick us up for an evening of errands. Daddy was also kind enough to wake up early and go shopping for fruit, milk, juice and a few other things.
It is absolutely gorgeous here and after putting the chaos of the last few weeks behind us (especially last week), I feel so relaxed here. That will soon change as I start driving, we move to a new apartment on Saturday, Nathan starts preschool next week and Daddy travels to Germany. Oh La La!

I am so glad that you and all of your luggage arrived in one piece:) Now all I want to do is come visit you. Maybe I should work on that passport thing. Julia could be a world traveler. Probably should come before she is mobile:)
