We made it through week one of kindergarten, unscathed. In fact, it was a rather ho hum experience. Nathan feels he is "old" now that he went to his school two months last spring and he knows a lot of his classmates and loves his teachers. The most exciting part was walking to school on Friday morning. Our house is very close to the school, but the walk is complicated by the narrow roads, bumpy sidewalks also sprinkled with doggie poo, and several uphill stretches. Mommy pulled the wagon with all 3 sitting in it so we could move quickly and it did not go very well. Sarah did not appreciate the bumps even while being held and comforted by her fabulous big brother. On the way home without her big brother to hold her, Sarah was so unhappy that Mommy carried her and pulled the wagon. Quite a work out! We won't be doing that every day. Hannah missed Nathan terribly despite our very busy social calendar last week. This week we are trying to keep our outings down to a minimum as last week proved very disruptive to Sarah's sleep schedule (both day and night) and this week both girls have noses running like faucets. We had a very busy weekend including a neighborhood BBQ on Saturday night. We met many of our neighbors and there are many English speaking expats on our street. We also found several potential babysitters right on our street as well. Our Belgian neighbors are all incredibly friendly and we managed to communicate with them fairly well. The children had a wonderful time playing with all of the other children until the fireworks started. Nathan was terribly upset that there are, in fact, fireworks in Belgium when Mommy mistakenly gave him false hope by reminding him they do not celebrate July 4th here.
Today the local schools begin here and it is business as usual. We were even greeted with a very typical dark and rainy morning as we made our way to school today. The traffic has increased with the locals returning from holiday and back to school and work. We wish a happy Labor Day and holiday weekend to our friends and families in the US. Have some BBQ for us. We had completely forgotten about the holiday until we talked to Nana and Papa this weekend. Amazingly, it wasn't until Sunday afternoon that we both realized (gasp) college football has started and we didn't even think about it. We read a bit about the games (felt a bit sorry for our friends in Michigan cheering for U of M) and then laughed about how we never thought we would survive without television this long. Last night, instead of watching football, we were watching Fiddler on the Roof from our old VHS collection. Weird, we know.
So here we are in week two. Our thoughts and prayers are with Aunt Jacy and Baby. We love you guys! We also hope that Max is doing well in rehab and are so thankful to everyone in San Antonio for taking such good care of him. We are all doing well with the exception of a few runny noses and Daddy's sore throat. So here goes week two. Sunrise, sunset...just kidding.

So glad the first week went well. Wow! That wagon story had me tired...can't imagine how tired you must have been.
We survived our first week realitively unscathed as well. We had a visit to the nurse on Day 1 due to an out-of-the-blue bloody nose. ??? Garrett loved Nurse Hannah though & was not alone in there. He had to tell me about everyone else's ailments.
The TV thing is funny, huh? I remember we didn't have it for a few months after we moved into our house & it was amazing the things we did instead. We read & Tony even taught himself to play the piano. We're going on week 3 here without it in the apt. Thank goodness the Time Warner guy comes on Thursday. There are only so many Tivo'd reruns we can watch (I "stocked up" on shows before Directv was cut off at the house). Finally broke down & rented dvd's from the library this week. That sounds so pathetic, doesn't it?
