Four Year Old Logic

Nathan has a Game Boy. It was intended to be a special treat used on our loooooong plane ride to Belgium, but oddly, it came home from a resale game shop a couple of weekends ago after he and Daddy went to "see what they had".

Nathan is very excited about his new toy, but does exhibit amazing restraint for a four year old. He doesn't ask to play constantly (though daily) and he does stop when asked (for the most part). He even stops on his own and lets us know that he isn't going to ask to play at all "tomorrow" (he never says that about "today").

While shopping for his Game Boy, he and Daddy also found an older, less expensive version that would be perfect for Hannah. It is pink and he and Daddy thought she might like a princess game or Monster's Inc game. They didn't buy Hannah a game because Daddy wasn't sure she would be interested. She was very interested initially and there were quite a few battles that first day it was in our house. However, her interest has waned and she hasn't mentioned having her own since the day Nathan brought his home and told her about the special pink one they found for her.

Nathan must be feeling guilty that he has his game and Hannah doesn't have hers yet. Today on the way to church, he was very quiet and told us he was upset with us because we said the game was for our trip, but we let him play with it every single day. Then he wanted to know why we bought his game early, but Hannah didn't even have hers yet! Immediate parent guilt set in. It seems our son is calling us on our parenting skills (or the lack there of) already.

We explained away our behavior the best we could and told Nathan that we did plan to get Hannah her video game before our trip. (We do realize that if Hannah's interest in the video game returns on the plane, it will be a very unpleasant eight hour plane ride.)

Hannah had taken interest in the conversation and began asking about her "veeo game".

Nathan quickly took over and explained the situation to his sister. "Don't worry Hannah. I already have my Game Boy and Mommy and Daddy will be getting your Game Girl before the trip".

If he is a boy and video game is called a Game Boy, what else would his sister's game be called? Logical? Of course!

(The picture is of Nathan working hard on his homework. For Valentine's Day he worked very hard with his Daddy writing the names of all of his classmates and his teachers. He did a great job! He doesn't play video games all of the time, promise).
