We never felt like we really got in sync yesterday and for some unknown reason, we left our camera in the play land we visited in Antwerp. We held our breath that perhaps another family would discover our misfortune, realize some very important pictures were on that camera and turn it in...to no avail. This morning we were told that "someone probably took it". The beauty of Antwerp is that most of the Dutch speaking establishments speak English so there is no worry that we did not communicate our dilemma correctly. We are fairly certain our loss was some other person's gain. Not our first experience like this in Belgium. Let's just say we have had ample opportunity to teach our children about people making bad choices regarding finding things and taking them with no regard for others. The funny thing is that today when I explained why we were recreating Sarah's first birthday party for some pictures, Nathan asked if "the guy" would be delivering our camera later today as "the guy" brought our luggage and car seats back. No, I had to explain, unfortunately, someone must have decided to keep our camera and I am fairly certain that no one will be returning it. Ironically, when I sat down to post, this story popped up on yahoo news...
The birthday party was just as much fun as the "rehearsal" yesterday. Fortunately for us, we ate the cupcakes yesterday and still had an intact birthday cake to celebrate with today. Sarah was much neater this time around. Only took one practice cupcake! We bagged up her presents again (to be honest, they are baby toys from Nathan and Hannah's baby days in the first place--we brought them out of storage, put in some fresh batteries--Voila! birthday gifts without adding to our already extensive toy collection!) and we took pictures of her in her new dress from Nana & Papa. Yesterday was fun. We took the kids to a play land in Antwerp and it was fun, but the kids were a little overwhelmed by the size and chaos. There wasn't much for a one year old to do, but Sarah did have a blast in the ball pit. Like I said, yesterday just felt like an "off" day and we didn't leave the place in a rush and it wasn't any different than any other time. We can't explain how we managed to leave the camera behind and make it home with the free toys that came with the meal. C'est la vie.
Daddy had to miss Sarah's party, take two. He is presently on his way to Michigan for a few days. However, the recreated party took the attention away from his departure and saved us the tears and frustration (on my part) that generally ensue when he leaves.
We now begin week 4 after Christmas break. Mommy and Daddy spent last weekend sick and much of this past week recovering. The kids are hanging in there fighting off colds and other wintry fun. The kids will celebrate Carnival on Friday at school wearing costumes and eating fun snacks. The following week is winter break and we are going to play in the snow in Austria for a few days. Thanks to everyone for the well wishes on Sarah's first birthday. She did have a great weekend. She has changed a lot in the last few weeks and is suddenly very aware of what everyone else is doing...she wants to do it too! We have our work cut out for us now that we finally have 3 of these little people to chase after, literally.

I have tried to leave you a comment a couple of times and for a variety of reasons have been unable to do so.
Happy bday Sarah!! I can't believe how big she has gotten. The videos are so much fun!
